One of the highlights of each J.O. season is the naming of the Region 5 All Star Team. Those Level 10 and elite gymnasts from Region 5 (Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky) with the highest all-around average score for the season using a set formula, earn positions on the All-Star Team. Each year the team travels to a new destination for a competition, which allows for a great competitive experience for all those involved.

Congratulations to DeVeaus own Shelby Salmon, 15, for making the 2006 Region 5 All-Star Team. Shelby, along with Hannah Toussant of Ohio, are the two elite gymnasts from Region 5 who were selected for positions on the All-Star Team. The 10-member team will travel October 10-16 to Munich and Augsburg, Germany, to compete in a dual competition with Germany.

Samantha Peszek Competes in the Junior Pan American Championships....

.

DeVeau's Samantha Peszek represented the United States in the Junior Pan American Championships in Gatineau, Canada, August 26-27. During Saturday's competition, (team and all-around) Samantha had the fourth highest all-around score with a 59.250.

She started Team USA off strong on beam scoring a 15.00, which tied for the third highest score on this event. Sam moved to floor and scored a 14.750, which was the third highest score on floor. Sam scored a 15.150 on vault, which was the highest score on this event. Sam was two tenths out of first place after three events, but missed a release move on bars and scored 14.350, which was the fourth best score on this event.

Shawn Johnson won the all-around with a 60.25, Bianca Flohr was second with a 60.000 and Brazil's Jade Barbosa was third with a 59.45.

During event finals on Sunday, only two gymnasts per country could compete on an event. Sam qualified to all four events but, due to the two gymnast per country rule, she only competed on vault and floor.  When it was all said and done, Samantha won floor with a score of 15.10 and took second on vault with an average vault score of 14.387.  To sum up the results ... Sam won a team gold, floor gold and vault silver medal at the Jr. Pan American Gymnastics Championships.  CONGRATULATIONS!
