Another season ends for the DeVeau's Level 10 Men's Team... On May 3rd and 4th five of the six National qualifiers traveled to Battle Creek, MI to participate in the 2006 JO Men's Gymnastics National Championships. Richie Peterson was unable to make the trip due to an injury. On Wednesday night the guys participated in the Opening Ceremonies. During these ceremonies, Patrick Schenkel and Richie Peterson were announced as 2nd Team Academic All-Americans; and, Nate Goodwin was announced as a 1st Team Academic All-American! Way to go guys!
Thursday, May 4th, all five boys took the floor (bars, vault, horse, etc...) in competition. While none of our guys made it to finals, they should be happy they got to participate. There were many boys that didn't make it to Nationals, so to be there was quite an honor! When it was all said and done our boys finished as follows: 16-18 year old age
division: Kyle Wetzel - 151st in the Nation 14-15 year old age
division: Blaize Monks - 193rd in the Nation Their best event scores and how they are ranked in the Nation are as follows: Kyle's P-Bar routine
earned him his best placing with a tie for 66th. Congratulations and thanks for a great season!!!
Congratulations to all of the boys who
participated in the Region V Gymnastics Championships on the weekend of
April 1-2, 2006!!! All of the boys who participated, one was
injured and could not participate, tried their hardest and all had great
meets! Out of the seven Level 10 gymnasts that could qualify to
go to Nationals, six of them will be participating at the JO Nationals
in Battle Creek, Michigan the first week of May! Nate Goodwin, Eric Maas,
Blaize Monks, Richie Peterson, Zach Rupe and Kyle Wetzel
will be representing DeVeau's that first week in May. Pat
Schenkel, while scoring his best all around score all season, missed
going to Michigan by a mere .425! We are very proud
of ALL of the Level 10 boys for their hard work a great showing this
season! Congratulations to the Level 10 State Champions:
Level 10 Men's Team traveled to Columbus, Ohio...what a weekend! On March 4th, the Level 10 team traveled to Columbus, Ohio to participate in the Arnold Challenge. The meet proved to be another good one! Once again all seven boys placed at least once at this meet. And, as in Michigan, Eric Maas, Blaize Monks, and Richie Peterson all qualified to compete in the Finals on Sunday. This time, however, Nathan Goodwin and Zach Rupe also joined the final qualifiers list! In the 16-18 year old age division: Nathan placed 4th on the pommel horse which qualified him to go to finals. Eric tied for 8th on rings and tied for 10th on Vault, qualifying him to go to finals on rings. Pat was dealing with a knee injury throughout the meet, but seemed to be having fun. Kyle, who had to scratch on pommels due to an injury, tied for 10th on vault also. In the 14-15 year old age division: Blaize placed on all 6 events - 3rd on floor, 5th on pommel, 6th on rings & vault, 4th on parallel bars, 1st on high bar and he tied for 4th in the all around competition. Richie ended up having to scratch on 3 events due to an injury but on the three events he competed on, he placed on all three... he got 9th on floor, 4th on vault, and 10th on parallel bars! This qualified him to go to finals for vault. Zach placed 7th on rings and parallel bars, 5th on high bar, and 8th all around. He ended up qualifying for finals on those events. Due to various circumstances, Blaize and Nathan were the only two that returned on Sunday to compete in finals....both did VERY well!!! Congratulations Level 10 guys!!! Good luck at State! Level 10 Men's Team Excel at recent meets.... On February 17th, the Level 10 team traveled to Battle Creek, Michigan (the site of JO Nationals this May) to participate in the 11th Annual Cereal City Classic. The meet proved to be another good one! All seven boys placed at least once at this meet. Eric Maas, Blaize Monks, and Richie Peterson all qualified to compete in the Finals on Saturday. Zach Rupe topped his high score as well as achieving his high score for the season on four of the six events! Nathan Goodwin had a great meet as well as did Patrick Schenkel and Kyle Wetzel. The Level 10 guys once again earned the 1st place team trophy! Great job!!
On the weekend of February 4-6 they all attended the Black Jack International Invitational in Las Vegas. The older guys competed on Saturday and had a little bit of a rough time. Eric Maas had a great vault which earned him a trip to the 4th place podium during awards. Patrick Schenkel scored his high score for the season. The younger guys competed on Sunday and had a better go of it. Blaize Monks placed on 3 events and scored his high score for the season, Richie Peterson placed on two events, and Zach Rupe scored his high score for the season. The 14-15 year old Level 10 team earned the 2nd place team plaque! Good job guys! On the weekend of January 20-22 they attended their home meet at the Indiana Convention Center, Woodward's Circle of Stars. All seven men competed on Saturday and all seven did well. Almost all of the guys increased their scores from the meet in Chicago. The level 10 team took home the first place team trophy from that meet.
The Level 10 age 14-15 year old boys had their first meet on January 14, 2006 in Chicago, Illinois at the Windy City X Invitational. They all missed the first meet of the season, Champion's Winter Challenge in December, due to illness. Each of the boys went out and did their best at what is known as a very tough meet. Richie Peterson scored a 40.55 in the All Around finishing 32 out of 78. His best placing of the day was on Rings where he came in 11th! Zach Rupe scored a 35.75 in the All Around. His scores were consistent and he even brought his Pommel score up almost 3 points from last year's Windy City score! Blaize Monks did very well in his first meet as a level 10. He had a 39.35 for an All Around score and finished right behind Richie at 41st place. He, too, had an 11th place finish but his was on the Floor. Way to go boys!
