2006-2007![]() Farewell to a great gymnast and friend, Nate Goodwin... With the end of the competitive season came the end of Nate Goodwin's competitive gymnastics career. Nate has been competing in gymnastics since he was seven years old. He graduated from Anderson Highland High School on June 2nd and will be going to Purdue University in the Fall. Unfortunately for the gymnastics community, he isn't planning on continuing to compete in gymnastics. Instead he is going to focus on his studies. He's hoping to work out occasionally and we look forward to him coming back to visit. GOOD LUCK, NATHAN!!!
Three of the four of the DeVeau's Level 10 men's team traveled to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the week of May 9th-11th, 2007 to compete in the USAG's 2007 Men's J.O. National Gymnastics Championships. They all competed on the 10th and were in the same session as the Regional Teams! The competition was amazing....there were 242 of the Nation's best in the 16-18 year old age group and 231 in the 14-15 year old age group. The end of Nate's gymnastics career was highlighted with his 123rd placing on pommel horse (his best event since he started this sport). Zach finished his season placing 107th on pommel horse. Blaize did great in his age group finishing 29th on rings and qualifying to the semi-finals on that event. Nate, Zach and Blaize finished 192nd, 175th, and 75th respectively. A great ending to a fabulous season! Blaize's accomplishments at Nationals landed him an invitation to the Region 5 Men's Training Camp. Congratulations, Blaize!
The place to be on the weekend of April 14th & 15th, 2007 was Battle Creek, Michigan at the Region 5 Men's Gymnastics Championships. There were 65 of the Region's best in the 16-18 year old age group where Nate and Zach were competing. They both worked hard and ended the day qualifying to move on to the J.O. Nationals. Nate's highest placing was a tie for 9th on pommel horse. Zach's best showing was on parallel bars which was a tie for 26th. In the 14-15 year old age group, there were 59 of the Region's best. Two of those competitors were Blaize and Drew. Even though they both tried hard, only Blaize advanced to the National competition. Blaize did extremely well finishing in the top 20 on all events except pommel horse. His best showing was on high bar where he received the silver medal! Drew's best showing was on floor where he tied for 32nd.
The Level 10 team members had a two week break before the Indiana Men's State Championships which were held on March 24th & 25th, 2007 at Indy School of Gymnastics in Indianapolis, IN. During the break, the guys trained hard and it showed when they got to State! Nathan Goodwin, DeVeau's only high school senior, finished his last State Meet as the Indiana State Champion on pommel horse. And, was named the Indiana State All Around Champion! He was also named the State Bronze Medalist on floor and rings, and the State Silver Medalist on parallel bars and high bar. Zach Rupe was named the State Bronze Medalist on parallel bars, high bar and in the all around. He also was named the State Silver Medalist on pommel horse and rings! Blaize Monks was phenomenal at State and was named the Indiana State Champion on all events (except floor where he was named the State Silver Medalist) and was named the Indiana State All Around Champion! Drew Sheehy was tied for the State Bronze Medal on floor and placed 4th on parallel bars and high bar. With all of the wonderful performances by the DeVeau's men, they won the 1st place team trophy! In addition to doing great at State, all four boys qualified to move on to the Regional competition.
